ARTIST STATEMENT

CAPE TOWN BASED ARTIST

I am a Cape Town based artist who explores the stories we carry, the journeys we take, and the landscapes, both internal and external, that shape us. My work is grounded in drawing. The line is my anchor. Sometimes definite, sometimes hesitant, smooth or jagged, it reflects the imperfect routes we travel through life.

I am drawn to materials that already have a history: road signs, old maps, heat pressed shopping bags, wood panels, reflective glass beads from road markings, and even pieces of physical street. These surfaces hold traces of people and places, and I work with them as collaborators rather than backgrounds. They remind me that nothing in life is linear. Everything is layered, weathered, and alive.

My practice moves between fine art, public murals, and experimental mixed media. I often return to themes of fables, legends, and folklore. These stories carry cultural memory and universal truths and allow me to explore identity, belonging, and the tension between order and chaos.

I am fascinated by alchemy, by what happens when you combine the unexpected, when raw textures meet delicate line work, when urban grit meets quiet introspection. My work becomes a conversation between spontaneity and precision, between the unpredictable path of a brushstroke and the certainty of a line.

Through New Art Collective, the artist run platform I co founded, I collaborate with other South African artists to create spaces where community, creativity, and storytelling meet. For me, art is not only a personal journey. It is a shared one.

Every piece I create is a map of sorts, a record of movement, memory, and the beautiful mess of being human.
